Hazardous Materials Incident Prompts Evacuation

Officials evacuated a building in the 2300 block of Durant Avenue while conducting the investigation.

Berkeley police and fire officials responded to a reported hazardous materials incident in the 2300 block of Durant Avenue.
 
The possible hazardous materials incident was first reported shortly before 4 p.m., according to Berkeley Deputy Fire Chief Avery Webb.

Police remained at the scene as of 5:30 p.m. investigating and the building was evacuated, according to police Officer Ethell Wilson.
