Handgun, Taser Brandished in Morning Robbery

Police seek three men who climbed out of car, set upon pedestrian on Dana Street.

Police are looking for three Latino men in connection with an armed robbery that took place on Dana Street at about 5:45 a.m. Monday.

A man told police he was walking north on Dana at Durant Avenue when a green Toyota pulled up. The 21-year-old victim paid little attention as three Hispanic men got out of the back of the car.

As they approached him, one brandished a dark, semi-automatic handgun and demanded his belongings -- a laptop, a cell phone and a wallet. A second suspect held a possible Taser type device, and the third suspect stood by.

The trio left on foot, heading south on Dana Street towards Channing Way. The crime victim did not recall seeing the car drive off. He called the Berkeley Police Department at 5:51 a.m. Berkeley officers and UC Berkeley campus police fanned out in the area but did not locate a car that matched the victim's description. The man was not physically injured during the robbery.

One suspect was described as a Hispanic man in his 20s, 6 feet, 2 inches to 6 feet, 4 inches tall, wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and a black Lakers baseball cap and carrying a dark, semi-automatic handgun. A second suspect was described as a Hispanic man, 19 to 20 years old, about 5 feet, 8 inches tall, wearing a grey sweater and holding a black Taser-like weapon. The third is described as a Hispanic man, about 20 years old, wearing a gray sweater and acting as a possible lookout.
