Fire at 'Flavors of India'

No damage to residences above ground-floor restaurant.

A one-alarm fire late Tuesday night damaged an Indian restaurant on Berkeley's College Avenue, a fire spokesman said today.

Firefighters responded to 3211 College Ave. just before 11 p.m. after receiving a report of a fire at Flavors of India, a ground-floor restaurant in a building with residences above, Berkeley Deputy Fire Chief Gil Dong said.

The first engine company arrived to find smoke coming from the restaurant, Dong said. Firefighters got a handle on the blaze "fairly quickly," Dong said, and it was declared under control by 11:06 p.m.

The fire, which burned in the restaurant's kitchen, damaged only the commercial space and not the homes above. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No injuries were reported, Dong said.
