Fake Smoke, Fake Injuries: Police, Fire Departments Train at Berkeley Adult School All Week

Expect fake smoke, real fire hoses, imitation casualties near 1701 San Pablo Avenue as first responders train in the daytime and evening Monday through Friday, April 1-5.

Berkeley Police and Fire Departments will conduct training exercises this week at the Berkeley Adult School, 1701 San Pablo Ave., according to a police spokesperson.

"The neighborhoods surrounding the Berkeley Adult School can expect to see police and fire vehicles and associated crews in the area throughout the week," said Officer Jennifer Coats, the BPD's public information officer, in a press release this morning.

"People should also expect to see members of our Barricaded Subject Hostage Negotiation Team as well as role-players made up to look like causalities," Coats said. "Occasionally fake smoke may be visible as well as water from fire hoses."

The training is designed to prepare first responders for a multi-casualty incident, Coats said.

Training begins today (Monday) and will continue through Friday, April 5. The training will start and finish at various times but will generally be between the hours of 8 a.m. and 9 p.m., Coats said.
