You don't want to drink and drive anytime anywhere, especially in Berkeley on Friday night.
Berkeley police will be conducting a DUI (driving under the influence) checkpoint on San Pablo Avenue near Jones Street from 8 p.m. until about 2 a.m., the department said. DUI can result not only from alcohol but also drug use.
"Driving impaired is extremely dangerous and the consequences are serious and
real," according to a police department news release. "Impaired drivers can kill themselves and others, and the trauma and
financial costs of a crash or an arrest for driving while impaired are significant.
"During 2010, more than 10,000 people were killed nationwide in a motor
vehicle traffic collision involving impaired drivers."
Berkeley police urge anyone who sees a drunk driver to call 911.
