UPDATE: Driver Arrested on Suspicion of DUI, Felony Hit-And-Run in Tunnel Road Crash

Tunnel Road has reopened in both directions.

Berkeley Police officials identify the driver involved the Tunnel Road collision in Berkeley on Friday morning as Anthony Edward Torpey, 21, of Castro Valley. Torpey faces felony DUI, felony hit-and-run and other charges, according to police. 
Police say Torpey's passenger is still in critical condition.

Tunnel Road in Berkeley has reopened in both directions after an apparent DUI crash early this morning, according to Berkeley police.
 
The road had been closed in both directions after the 2:22 a.m. crash that seriously injured a passenger, police said. At of 8 a.m., westbound Tunnel Road was open but eastbound Tunnel Road remained closed.
 
Around 11:30 a.m., both directions were open, according to police. The crash was reported at 2:22 a.m. at Tunnel Road and The Uplands, according to police. The passenger in the car, a 24-year-old man, was found with serious injuries. He was taken to a hospital and is in critical condition, police said.
 
The driver, a 21-year-old man, had fled the scene, but was found nearby by officers, police said. He was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, DUI and other alleged violations, police said.

The car was the only vehicle involved in the incident, police said.

Berkeley police are warning motorists of a solo-vehicle collision blocking Tunnel Road this morning.
 
The collision in the area of Tunnel Road between Alvarado Road and The Uplands was reported shortly after 2:20 a.m., police said. A black Corvette sustained front-end damage in the collision.
 
The passenger in the vehicle, who was in his 20s, suffered significant injuries and was transported to a hospital, according to police.

Berkeley Police officials said in a statement this morning, "The driver, a 24-year-old male, fled the scene of the collision and was detained by BPD away from the scene. During the subsequent investigation the driver was arrested for felony hit and run, felony driving under the influence and other charges."

The police department's Fatal Accident Investigation Team was called to investigate the crash.
 
Motorists are advised to find alternate routes from state Highway 24 to state Highway 13.
