The Alameda County coroner's bureau has identified a 24-year-old Massachusetts man who was struck and killed by a car while riding his bicycle across Interstate Highway 80 in Berkeley early Saturday morning.

The bicyclist, identified as Michael Arthur, of Jamaica Plain, Mass., was hit by a Ford pickup truck on eastbound Highway 80 near University Avenue around 4:30 a.m. Saturday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Arthur was apparently trying to cross the lanes to the center divide, according to the CHP.

Arriving officers found the bicyclist down in the roadway and he was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP officials said.

The truck driver, a 41-year-old man from Mariposa County, was not injured in the crash and cooperated with investigators.

Anyone with information about the fatal crash is asked to call the CHP at (510) 450-3821 or (800) TELL-CHP.
