Berkeley Police to Participate in Torch Run for Special Olympics
Berkeley Police will pass the torch to Albany Police, who will then pass it to El Cerrito Police.
Later this month, local law enforcement officers will participate in a run geared toward raising money and public awareness about the Special Olympics.
The Northern California Law Enforcement Torch Run takes place June 21.
will hand the torch off to at about 11 a.m. on San Pablo Avenue near the city limit. They will then hand off the torch to El Cerrito police further north along San Pablo near Albany's northern border.

More than 3,500 law enforcement staffers from federal, military, state, county and local agencies are signed up to participate in the effort, which supports Special Olympics programs "through fundraising and public awareness, while enhancing the quality of life for the athletes," according to information released this week.
The Torch Run campaign is described as a year-round activity that culminates annually in June at the Special Olympics Northern California Summer Games.

Police ask residents to "come out and show your support" on June 21 for the Special Olympics and local law enforcement officers.
