Update: Berkeley Police Search for Robbers, LeConte Elementary No Longer On Lockdown

Berkeley police have blocked off the area of the 2900 block of Fulton Street after a reported attempted home break-in.

Berkeley police are searching the area of the 2900 block of Fulton Street for suspected burglars. As a result, nearby LeConte Elementary School students was asked to stay inside the school, Berkeley Police Department Public Information Officer Jennifer Coats said Wednesday afternoon. By about 2:50 p.m., the lock down was lifted.

A resident in 2100 block of Ward Street spotted multiple people trying to break into the resident’s home. The resident chased the suspects and asked passersby to call 911. Berkeley police received multiple calls from citizens reporting the crime, Coats said.

The suspects reportedly fled to the 2900 block of Fulton Street.
