Berkeley Police Officer Attacked by Pit Bull During Search

The injured officer was released after treatment at a local hospital.

A Berkeley police officer was attacked and bitten by a pit bull today, Tuesday, while helping to execute a search warrant in Richmond, according to a Bereley Police Department spokesperson.

Members of the Berkeley Police Department's Special Enforcement Unit were executing the warrant about 3:18 p.m. at a Richmond home when they were confronted by three pit bulls belonging to the resident, Officer Stephanie Polizziani said in a written statement.

One dog bit an officer in the arm while another dog attempted to assist in the attack, Polizziani said.

Both dogs were shot and killed, she said.

The officer was subsequently treated for injuries and released from a local hospital, Poliziani said.
