Wednesday, Oct. 19

Somebody stole $2,400 worth of computers overnight from the Graduate Assembly building.

A man in the 1200 block of Henry Street reported that someone had tried to buy more than $6,000 worth of stuff using his bank account connected to Bill Pay, and was foiled only when the merchant called him to confirm the charges.

A couple in the 2600 block of Benvenue Avenue left their home unlocked about 12:10 p.m. When they returned at 4:30 p.m., they found their kitchen door ajar, a basement door and a gate to the yard open, and two laptops, two digital cameras, an iPod and other stuff gone.

A student's iPhone 4 was stolen sometime between 2-2:45 p.m. from Pauley Ballroom.

A window was left open this afternoon in the 2600 block of Telegraph, and stuff vanished through it.

Tuesday, Oct. 18

A motorcyclist behind a tree at South Aquatic Park at 12:40 a.m. turned out  to be holding a baggie of suspected methamphetamine.

A 21-year-old woman awoke at 1:33 a.m. in the 2300 block of Dwight Way to find a strange man wandering around the bedroom. She screamed and he ran away, apparently with her white MacBook and Droid phone in his backpack.

Somebody smashed a garage window in the 1300 block of Lincoln, but it's not clear what, if anything, was stolen.

An employee's iPhone was stolen from 316 Wurster Hall.

Two men were spotted in Parking Structure C looking suspiciously into people's car windows.

A student's backpack with $4,495 worth of stuff was stolen from Bechtel Hall sometime between 2:30 and 3 p.m.

Somebody who shouldn't have had a key to 108 Wellman Hall stole $350 worth of stuff.

Monday, Oct. 17

About 12:30 a.m., a woman in the 2800 block of California Street found her living-room window pried open and two laptops gone. 

A woman in the 1200 block of Evelyn Avenue learned when she tried to start her Toyota pickup at 6:00 a.m. that its catalytic converter had been stolen over the weekend.

A man the 1800 block of Tacoma Avenue who parked and locked his 1999 Volvo on Sunday night returned to find his Garmin GPS and about $20 worth of coins were gone.

Sunday, Oct. 16

A pockmarked white guy in his 20s was spotted prying open a window in the 2300 block of Piedmont Avenue at 4:36 a .m.

A 35-year-old woman was walking in the 2300 block of Channing Way about 8:30 a.m. when a man who passed her on the sidewalk suddenly turned around, pointed a handgun at her, grabbed her purse and ran into a waiting car on nearby Dana Street.

A Davis couple who left their 2005 Toyota Prius at the Berkeley Marina about 11 a.m. returned about noon to find its right rear window smashed and a tan leather suitcase, two purses, and their credit cards and keys gone.

A man in the 900 block of Parker Street heard noises coming from the kitchen about 4 p.m. that turned out to be two teenage boys removing his kitchen window screen. When he asked what they were doing, the two took off running down his driveway.

A car in the 800 block of Jones Street is missing its battery.

Two unlocked vehicles in the 900 block of Tulare Avenue are missing cell phones and change.

So is an unlocked vehicle in the 2500 block of Benvenue.

The person who left his/her ATM card in the machine in the 2300 block of Telegraph bequeathed cash gifts to two subsequent passersby.

A scar-faced black man shoplifted a power adapter from a shop in the 1600 block of University Avenue.

A guy who spent the noon hour trying to steal a 2003 Taurus at Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Woolsey Street was arrested.

But the person who stole a Pontiac from Otis and Russell a few hours later got away with it. 

Bike thieves with bolt cutters did their evil work in the 2100 block of Shattuck Avenue and the 2000 block of Kittredge Street.

Saturday, Oct. 15

Two young women screaming and honking their car horn on Centennial Way near Grizzly Peak about 3:45 a.m. drew the solicitous assistance of three young men who were in turn set upon by at least eight men, one of them with a knife. The would-be Samaritans escaped downhill to campus with minor injuries.

Somebody stole a wallet and a cellphone in the early hours of the morning in the 2200 block of Shattuck Avenue.

A van lock was found cut in Underhill Lot and $2,000 worth of stuff missing.

A man who appeared to be casing residences this morning in the 2500 block of Parker Street was spoken to about it.

A dreadlocked man in his mid-20s punched a bicyclist and stole his bike at 5 a.m. in the 1700 block of San Pablo Avenue.

Somebody charged $84.25 to someone else's BluCard.

A student was caught trying to shoplift an $82 textbook from the ASUC.

Somebody stole a wallet and a cellphone in the early hours of the morning in the 2200 block of Shattuck Avenue.

Three young women shoplifted an HP TouchPad about 4 p.m. from a shop in the 1300 block of Tenth Street.

A window was left open in the 500 block of Neilson Street, and an iPhone walked through it.

Bike thieves with bolt cutters struck at Center Street and Shattuck Avenue; the 2000 block of Allston Way; the 2100 block of MLK Jr. Way; the 2100 block of Shattuck; the Valley Life Sciences Building, the Unit 1 dorm bike cage and the Recreational Sports Facility.

A bike stolen in the 2100 block of University Avenue was found a short time later at North Berkeley BART.

A merchant in the 2900 block of College Avenue isn't sure what the shoplifter took.

An unattended skateboard at Telegraph Avenue and Russell Street skated away.

Someone smashed a car window in the 1800 block of Fourth Street and stole the laptop and backpack within.

Three teenagers were seen prying open a window of a home in the 1400 block of Fairview Street; it's not clear what, if anything, they took.

A door was left open in the 2400 block of Warring Street, and a laptop walked through it.

Friday, Oct. 14

An unattended bike disappared from the 1300 block of Hearst Avenue.

A student's ID and other documents disappeared from his/her dorm room at 2700 Durant Avenue.

More bike thefts: from the 2500 block of College Avenue, from Essex and Adeline streets and from the Unit 2 dorm bike racks.

A 1995 Nissan Sentra, license plate 3LWY752, was stolen from the 2400 block of Warring Street.

The window was smashed of a car parked at 100 Seawall Drive arounf 1:30 p.m., and the computer within was spirited away.

Also burglarized, also by window smash, was a car in the 1900 block of Channing that lost its iPod and stereo.

A phone, computer and cash walked out of an open window in the 1400 block of Hopkins Street.

So did the TV in the 1400 block of Spruce Street.

So, via an unlocked door, did the guitars and amplifier in the 2200 block of Haste Street.

A gunman tried to rob someone at Derby and Ellsworth streets at 9:25 p.m. 

Two gunmen who tried to carjack a Camry in the 2300 block of Spaulding Avenue were arrested at 11 p.m.

Thursday, Oct. 13

Two people who clobbered, then robbed, someone in the 1700 block of San Pablo  at 5:12 a.m. were arrested.

So was the person who strongarmed someone out of a cellphone a few minutes later at Delaware and Curtis streets.

So was the person in the 2100 block of Kittredge Street who escalated a domestic dispute with a knife. 

Gas was siphoned from a vehicle in the 1500 block of Acton Street.

Somebody smashed a car window in the 1400 block of Sixth Street and stole a FasTrak device, a blanket and a sweater.

An unlocked window expedited the removal of a TV and jewelry from a home in the 2300 block of Hilgard Avenue.

But the thief who stole laptops, iPods and a camera from the 2600 block of Ashby had to pry open a window. 

Bikes left unattended in the 1100 block of Arch Street and the 2000 block of Channing did not ride away by themselves.

The rear plate was stripped from a vehicle at University Avenue and Milvia Street.

Police are pretty sure they know who stole the computer screens and router from the 2700 block of Hillegass Avenue.

A computer keyboard vanished from the 2900 block of Regent Street.

A 1985 Toyota pickup is homesick for the 1400 block of Cypress Street.
