Thursday, June 30

A woman in the 1200 block of Francisco Street was so busy cleaning house that she didn't notice someone walking in the door and taking her purse.

Someone got hurt in Faculty Glade about 8:45 a.m. and was taken to Summit-Alta Bates Hospital.

Tuesday, June 28

Construction dust triggered the latest of numerous false fire alarms reported this week, this time on the ninth floor of Latimer Hall.

Someone managed in broad daylight to wrangle a 46-inch flat-screen TV out of an apartment he or she broke into on the 2100 block of California Street, along with a Nintendo Wii, Apple PowerMac 15-inch silver laptop and a white tote bag. 

Monday,  June 27

A woman  is presumed to have been a suicide.

Someone smashed a window at All Souls Episcopal Church overnight and stole nine musical instruments.

The Jones Child Study Center on campus was broken into in the same manner around 10 p.m., but it doesn’t look as if anything was taken.

A man taking a late-night walk on Ashby Avenue west of Adeline Street was stopped by the sensation of a sharp object poking his back and the voice of a man demanding his wallet. The man ran, but not before his assailant stabbed him in the back of the head. A bystander drove the victim to the nearest hospital, where his wound was deemed not life-threatening. The assailant was described to police as an “unknown-race male, 6’3”, wearing a black hoodie and black jeans. 

A young woman walking on the 2400 block of Haste Street did not let go of her iPhone 4 easily when a man grabbed it from her about 2 p.m. and drove away. Some time later, police stopped a driver on 7th Street and Ashby, and the victim – nursing a minor finger injury sustained in the scuffle – identified the car, the iPhone and the robber, who was arrested.

A woman’s purse was lightened of its wallet on the 2100 block of Shattuck about 12:30 a.m.

Someone was arrested on a narcotics violation around midnight at Seventh Street and University Avenue.

Two bikes were left unlocked in the 1700 block of Sixth Street, and they disappeared.

A cell phone went missing on the 1700 block of Rose Street.

A woman in the 1900 block of Fairview who left for the day with her door unlocked came home just before 5 p.m. to find that someone had made off with a white Apple MacBook Pro and an HP 3-in-one printer.

Sunday, June 26

Someone cheated the front-door lock to Nation's Giant Hamburgers on University and stole a large quantity of bacon and sausage and 180 eggs.

A $550 Cannondale Trail SL3 bike was stolen from the Unit 2 dorms.

A 14-year-old girl was cited near Stephens Hall in the afternoon for possessing marijuana and alcohol.

A narcotics arrest was made about 12:25 a.m. at Sacramento and Harmon streets.

Two robbers pulled a bicyclist off his bike and against a metal tree guard at Addison and Shattuck about 2:15 a.m. in pursuit of his iPhone and cash. The cyclist was cut on his lower lip, but declined medical treatment.

Stuff was taken in the predawn hours from a business in the 1800 block of Bancroft Way.

Someone woke up on the 2000 block of Vine Street to find his or her vehicle gone.

Vandals were busy on the 1500 block of Francisco Street.

About 8 p.m., a couple in the 1100 block of Francisco Street came home to find their double rear doors had been forced open sometime in the last three hours. The burglar/s marched out the front door, which they didn’t even bother to close, with jewelry, two iPods, an Apple MacBook and an Asus laptop.

When two men asked the study-abroad student for his wallet on Telegraph and Dwight Way just before midnight, he gave it to them.

Saturday, June 25

A 22-year-old man was arrested for weapons possession on Grizzly Peak shortly before 1 a.m.

Someone stole $700 worth of ladders this afternoon from the Clark Kerr Campus.

Something was vandalized in the 2300 block of Telegraph Avenue.

Someone was arrested for vandalism in the 2100 block of Dwight Way.

A vehicle in the 2400 block of Ashby was stolen.

Stuff was stolen from cars throughout the day, in the 2300 block of Warring Street, the 3000 block of Acton Street, the 2200 block of Durant Avenue and at the corners of 10th and Gilman streets and 6th and Virginia streets.

A home in the 2300 block of Ward Street was burglarized.

Friday, June 24

The Telegraph Avenue Andronico's was  after a report of a suspicious person inside perhaps carrying an assault rifle. No such person was found.

Over in People's Park, a 58-year old man was picked up on a probation violation shortly before 1 a.m.

Someone shoplifted a bunch of stuff from a store in the 1300 block of San Pablo Avenue.

A shop on the 1900 block of University had its cash register looted.

Using bolt cutters, someone separated a bike at 2906 King from its rightful home. In the 2200 block of Shattuck Avenue, another bike was stolen the same way.

Vandals made their marks on the 2400 block of Piedmont Avenue and the 1700 block of University. In the latter case, an arrest was made.

Stuff was stolen from the 1700 block of Sixth Street and the 2000 block of Center Street.

More vehicle burglaries: this time in the 1700 and 1900 blocks of Fourth Street, the 1600 block of Dwight Way, the corner of McGee Avenue and Bancroft Way,  the 1800 block of Tenth Street and the 2400 block of Sacramento Street. 

Businesses in the 1600 and 2000 blocks of University Avenue were burglarized.

Someone was arrested on a narcotics violation at 14th Street and Allston Way.

Homes were burglarized in the 1200 block of Curtis Street and the 2000 block of Ward Street.

Thursday, June 23

A 23-year-old Napa man chased his unscrupulous Oxycontin contact through the streets of downtown Berkeley and crashed spectacularly into Chase Bank’s plate-glass door after the seller took $350 from him but proffered no drugs in exchange. Police arrested the seller, a 44-year-old Oakland man, on suspicion of robbery and a probation violation just before 6 p.m. They returned the $350 to the Napa man, who was taken to an emergency room with cuts sustained in his crash through the door.

Stuff was stolen from the 2700 block of Russell Street, the 2900 block of King Street, the 1000 block of Ashby and the 1500 block of University.

Someone took a 9:24 a.m. pee break on the southwest pathway of the Life Sciences Addition.

Something in the 2900 block of Ellis Street was vandalized, as was something in the 100 block of Seawall Drive.

Someone now thinks he/she can park anywhere on campus instead of the person who left his/her permit in an unlocked car next to Hearst Gym.

Vehicles in the 2100 block of Curtis Street, the 1800 block of Blake Street, the 2800 block of Park Street, the 2400 block of McGee Aenue and the 2400 block of Hearst Avenue are all lighter some items.

A business on the 800 block of University Avenue was burglarized.

A UC employee didn’t lock up his backpack while using the Recreational Sports Facility, and it disappeared along with four keys to various campus locks.
