Thursday, July 28

Someone lobbed a concrete slab through the front window of an Elmwood business about 3 a.m. and took two computer monitors and the cash register.

A Jeep window was smashed overnight in the 2800 block of Russell Street and its owners' backpacks taken.

Someone spent the noon hour setting fire to stuff left outside the 1300 block of Rose Street and at Hopkins Avenue and Cornell.

A student's wallet was stolen from Wurster Hall this afternoon, and another student's iPhone 4 was stolen from the RSF weight room.

A man attempting to break into a car in the 2200 block of Bancroft Way was arrested at 7:16 p.m.

Times are tough: Someone smashed a woman's car in the 2900 block of Pine Street and stole her lunch bag, along with some CDs and her day planner.

A Yolo Avenue woman learned that someone had opened an account at Lowe's in her name and charged $3,305.28 that same day. Wal-Mart also gave this lowlife credit in her name; Sears did not. Police advised her, and anyone else in her situation, to register as an identity-theft victim at http://ftc.gov/bcp/edu/microsites/idtheft/.

Tuesday, July 26

A motorist was arrested at Grizzly Peak Drive at 2:15 a.m. for alleged possession of a concealed weapon and a misdemeanor warrant.

About 2:45 a.m., a People's Park denizen was picked up on numerous traffic and misdemeanor warrants.

Two Albany Village residents living four doors apart reported their car windows smashed and stuff stolen from within.

The gate lock on a computer business in the 600 block of Page Street was cut overnight and a storage shed prowled, but bars and unbreakable acrylic windows blocked the burglar from stealing anything.

A 62-year-old man was hanging around Zellerbach Hall with methamphetamines. 

Monday, July 25

A male student discovered free-climbing Hearst Gym at 1 a.m. was spoken to about it.

A 60-year-old guy greeted the morning by causing a disturbance at Dwight Way and Regent Street.

Sunday, July 24

Secluded as Haas Clubhouse Pool may seem at 2:25 a.m., the university finds out about people swimming there and is displeased.

Same thing with sleeping in the Eucalyptus Grove.

And outside Bancroft Library.

The rear license plate was stolen from a UC employee's 2010 Chrysler in the Bowles Hall parking lot.

Someone smashed a guy's car window in the 1100 block of University Avenue and stripped the stereo; adding insult to injury, they also took the change from his center console and his sunglasses.

A teenager who tried to rob someone at Durant Avenue and Bowditch Street at 2:39 p.m. was unsuccessful.

A laptop was left unattended in the 2400 block of Piedmont Avenue, and it didn't stay put long.

Vehicles were reported stolen from the 1700 block of Tenth Street, the 1800 block of Ward Street, the 2400 block of Spaulding Avenue, the 1100 block of Eastshore Highway and the corner of Seventh and Gilman streets.

Someone smashed a vehicle window at 10th and Carleton streets and took the occupant's BlackBerry.

Somebody got stuck in an elevator at the Institute for East Asian Studies at 2223 Fulton Street.

Architecturally savvy thieves tried without success to remove a cement bench from the 2400 block of Buena Vista Way.

Saturday, July 23

A red Toyota Matrix whose registration was six months in arrears was towed from the Boalt Hall parking lot. 

Good news! A stolen Honda Accord was found on Panoramic Way and returned to its rightful home.

A middle-aged guy outside Barrows Hall was picked up on a probation violation.

Someone smashed a car window in the 1500 block of Oxford Street, taking the owner's rock climbing gear.

A 1994 Nissan is missing from its home on Sunset Lane.

A 1994 Ford Ranger is missing from Fifth Street and Bancroft Way.

Similarly, a 1991 Honda was stolen from the 2000 block of Stuart Street.

People were smoking marijuana in People's Park this evening.

Also littering.

Friday, July 22

One student's bike was stolen from outside Soda Hall, another's bike was stripped there, and a third student's bike was stolen outside Wurster. 

But Soda is quite the crossroads, because a blue Next Parowan 15 speed mountain bike was found! UCPD has it if you can prove it's yours.

A Danville woman settling a Berkeley relative's estate had stored that relative's Oriental rugs over the holidays in an unsecured garage in the 200 block of Hillside Road. They are now gone, along with a wedding ring. No suspects, no leads; loss is estimated for insurance purposes at $10,000.

A motorist's 9:30 a.m. crash outside the Foothill buildings damaged a water main and occasioned a large muster of UC, BPD, BFD, EBMUD and other emergency and public works personnel.

More auto theft in the 1100 block of Eastshore Highway; this time a 1996 Honda Accord.

A lab spill in 260C Stanley drew a hazmat crew; the employee involved went to Alta Bates Hospital for observation.

A man who attacked someone with a bottle in the 2600 block of San Pablo Avenue was arrested.

A vehicle in the 2800 block of San Pablo was left unlocked, and its cell phone and iPod disappeared.

A woman left her purse in an unlocked car in the 1000 block of University, and the same thing happened.

A door was left open in the 200 block of The Uplands, and jewelry, cashand a laptop disappeared through it. 

A laptop, desktop Mac, flatscreen TV and camera were stolen via an open window from a home in the 1300 block of 67th Street. A block away on 66th, another open window yielded up a laptop.

Someone left a car window open in the 1100 block of Page Street around 10:24 a.m., losing an iPod, iPhone and laptop.

Somebody cut through a shed lock in the 1400 block of Berkeley Way, but didn't take anything.

Thursday, July 21

Bikes were stolen from outside Wheeler Hall and the Unit 2 dorm bike racks.

A young man snatched the iPhone out of someone's hand in the 2000 block of Center Street at three in the afternoon.

Someone in the 900 block of University Avenue reported that a man named "Mindy" stole his gun.

Keys, mail and headphones were taken from an unlocked car in the 2700 block of Woolsey Street.

A rented truck was broken into in the 1900 block of Fourth Street sometime before 11 p.m., and a bag, laptop and tools were taken.

Somebody picked a vehicle lock in the 1500 block of Chestnut Street, looked through the glove compartment, but didn't take anything.

A vehicle in the 1400 block of Peralta Avenue was stripped of its catalytic converter.

Someone kicked a door open in the 1900 block of Oregon Street and made off with a bike and laptops.

But the door-kickers in the 1000 block of Harrison Street triggered an alarm and ran off.
