Incidents are derived from reports referenced in the UC Police Daily Activity Bulletin, the Berkeley Police calls-for-service log and other reports. The BPD items are from a police-provided sample of the 375+ calls the force receives each week.

Wednesday, Jan. 25

The two men accused in the near-fatal beating of Cal student Grant Richman during Christmas vacation were charged in San Diego on numerous felony counts.

A cooking fire run amok  at 2115 Kittredge Street.

Somebody in Giannini Hall charged $1,810 to somebody else’s BluCard.

Somebody in London – yes, England -- got hold of a BluCard and charged $850 to it.

A staggering-drunk man at Martin Luther King Jr. and Bancroft ways at 1:10 a.m. was taken to the city jail to sober up. 

Blue-and-gold graffiti was inscribed on a building at 2150 Kittredge Street.

An 81-year-old woman learned that someone had opened and charged nearly $600 to a Sprint account in her name.

The camping couple in the Smyth-Fernwald playground was finally rousted and their stuff confiscated for destruction.

A law student's Class Pass was stolen. He described its worth as "unknown."

An impressive haul of weapons, drugs and various accretia of the gangster life was uncovered by detectives serving a search warrant (police did not disclose where) on a couple believed to sell drugs in Berkeley. The man, 32, and woman, 24, were arrested on nine drug and weapons charges each. Confiscated were two 38-caliber revolvers; a tech 9 assault weapon; a Glock 45 with a high-capacity magazine; a 308-caliber rifle; eight bottles of codeine cough syrup; approximately 50 ecstasy pills; cocaine base; more than 20 pounds of marijuana; a Cadillac Escalade, a 2006 Maserati and more than $6,000 in cash.

A Giant mountain bike, value $200, was stolen from between 2 and 5:15 p.m. from the Pimentel Hall racks.

A 32-year-old woman was picked up about 9:40 p.m. in People’s Park on a misdemeanor warrant out of San Bernardino County.

Tuesday, Jan. 24

A 16-year-old and 18-year-old  in the Dec. 23 noon-hour shootings of two men at Sacramento and Woolsey streets. Details as to motive, etc., remain sparse.

A Cal employee was arrested for burglary this morning in the Bear’s Lair on campus and packed off to jail.

An 18-year-old woman was robbed of her iPod by three men at the Unit 1 dorm loading dock at 4:24 p.m.

 A grey men’s 21-speed bike, value $1,000, was stolen from the racks southeast of Haviland Hall between 3:30 and 5 p.m.

A gentleman sleeping in or near the Women’s Faculty Club was awakened. 

A 19-year-old pizza delivery man was robbed at knifepoint as he made a 9 p.m. delivery to the 2700 block of Sojourner Truth Court.

A middle-aged bicyclist riding at 63rd and California streets without a headlight at 8:30 p.m. turned out to have a a $20,000 warrant for his arrest, three balloons with suspected powder heroin, hypodermic needles and a probation record. 

The peace that is I-House at 11:30 p.m. was disturbed by a 44-year-old Latina.

Monday, Jan. 23

Someone with no legitimate reason to be outside University Hall at 1:40 a.m. was told to move along.

A black Trek 820 mountain bike, value $330, was stolen overnight from the Unit 2 dorm racks.

The padlocks were cut overnight to the garage doors to a home in the 600 block of Nielson Avenue and two bikes stolen -- a green Cannondale men's racing bike and a blue Giant brand women's road bike. 

Somebody helped him- or herself to contents of 25 Hilgard Hall including a laptop, textbooks and cash.

A green 1991 Honda Accord was stolen overnight from Haste Street and Piedmont Avenue.

After being quiet for a couple of weeks, the Lawrence Hall of Science parking lot reported four vehicle break-ins this morning between 10:45 and 11:45 a.m. Victimized were a 2010 Range Rover, a 2008 Toyota Scion, a 2007 Honda Accord and a 2010 Volvo xC-60, with a purse and backpack taken. There’s a suspect: UC police describe him as a black man in his mid-20s, 5’11” to 6’1” tall, with short wavy hair, 190 lbs. and of athletic build, wearing a short puffy red jacket and a red plaid shirt.

 A 25-year-old man who carried burglary tools and appeared to be stealing a bike was arrested at Hildebrand Hall about 4:30 p.m.

Bikes that did get stolen: a red-and-gold 25-speed men’s Trek between 4 and 6:30 p.m. from the racks north of Eshleman Hall; a Next PowerClimber from the Unit 2 dorm racks perhaps over the weekend but before 2 p.m.

Sunday, Jan. 22

An allegedly drunken driver was arrested about 2:30 a.m. on Telegraph south of Ashby avenues.

A man locked his $2,000 Rocky Mountain bicycle at Shattuck Avenue and Center Street overnight and expected it to be there in the morning.

Also overnight, someone tried to to break into a retail store in the 1300 block of San Pablo Avenue by prying off the roof. Perhaps because this mode is so labor-intensive, and perhaps because it was raining heavily, the burglars never got past the sub-roofing material. They did, however, cause massive leaks in the roof. 

A survivalist burglar who stole the earthquake kit from an unlocked vehicle in the 2200 block of Summer Street at 2:18 a.m. was arrested.

Sunglasses were removed from an unlocked car in the 1500 block of Sacramento Street, while a coin purse was divested from an unlocked car in the 1300 block of California. 

A drunken woman outside a restaurant in the 900 block of Carleton Street annoyed people.

A lock was cut at Shattuck and Center streets, and a bike taken. 

Somebody broke open a car door in the 2300 block of Bonar Street for the sake of coins within.

A vehicle at Virginia and Fifth streets was broken into and looted of a briefcase, camera, rug and other stuff. 

Two vehicles in the 1700 block of Hopkins were burglarized of coins, an iPod and cash.

A backpack walked out an unlocked rear door in the 1200 block of Allston Way about noon, while the burglars who stole a computer monitor and cash in the 1100 block of Allston had to pry open a window.

A window was also forced open at a home in the 1900 block of Carleton Street and a camera and computer stolen. 

Two men, one of them armed, divested someone of his or her cash about 10:18 p.m. at Hillegass Avenue and Dwight Way.

Saturday, Jan. 21

Somebody apparently tried to strip copper wire from 2151 Berkeley Way.

A silver 2010 Kia, license plate 6RMA785, was stolen from outside Memorial Stadium about 10:15 a.m. 

Someone was cited for shoplifting his noontime booze from a store in the 1500 block of Shattuck Avenue. 

Another, more discerning or at least more pretentious, thief was arrested for stealing sake from a store in the 1800 block of University. 

A man grabbed an iPhone out of someone’s hand about 4:30 p.m. at Dwight Way and Fulton Street.

Somebody pried open the window of a home in the 2000 block of Emerson Street about 3:30 p.m. and stole a backpack and coins. 

The person who stole the coins in the 2600 block of Mathews Street, however, found a window wide open.

A garage lock was reported cut about 6 p.m. in the 600 block of Santa Rosa Avenue, and a bunch of bikes taken. 

The thief or thieves who pried open a window in the 1800 block of San Ramon Avenue stole a computer.

Friday, Jan. 20

The tires were stripped overnight from a vehicle in the 900 block of Regal Road.

A Cal employee was robbed of a purse and $270 worth of stuff this morning in Earl Warren Hall northwest of campus.

Somebody used a torch to break into a business in the 1100 block of Alameda and steal the tools within.

A blue 21-speed Next mountain bike was stolen between noon and 5 p.m. from outside Eshleman Hall.

A young man divested someone of an iPhone at knifepoint at 4:18 p.m. at Ashby Avenue at Martin Luther King Jr. Way.

Police are pretty sure they know who committed the sexual assault this afternoon in the 2500 block of Piedmont Avenue. 

A lock was cut in the 2000 block of Allston Way and a bike taken.

A laptop was stolen from the 1400 block of Ada Street.

Someone was arrested for shoplifting cookies and a toothbrush from the 2300 block of Shattuck Avenue. 

The day in thefts from unlocked cars: cash from the 1400 block of Northside Avenue and a razor, money and sunglasses from the 2800 block of Buena Vista Way.

Vehicles in the 2500 block of Telegraph and at Bancroft Way and Dana Street were broken into, but it’s not clear what, if anything, was taken.

The back door of a home in the 2400 block of Acton Street was kicked in early this afternoon and a MacBook laptop taken.

Somebody pried the door of a home in the 1300 block of Addison Street and stole the medical alarm system and a TV. 

Three people from Hayward who tried to rob someone at 2400 Channing Way were arrested about 10:30 p.m.

From a home in the 2500 block of San Pablo Avenue, burglars stole a computer and cash.

And residents in the 2700 block of Haste Street lost a laptop and keys.

A 39-year-old social critic accused of perorating his way through several North Gate and Barrows hall restrooms this evening with a can of red spray paint was hauled off to jail.

Thursday, Jan. 18 

Two young men beat up a Cal student in a Christian Hall dorm room about 1:45 a.m. 

An $800 road bike was stolen from the south side of Boalt Hall sometime between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. 

The registration stickers were stolen overnight from a vehicle in the 2500 block of Grant Street.

Somebody looted 25 AC Transit bus passes from the Cal 1 office on campus.

A 2012 Jetta was stolen from the 400 block of Vassar Avenue.

A 1988 Legend was stolen from the 600 block of Spruce Street.

A blue-eyed white girl in her 20s strongarmed someone out of a cell phone shortly before noon at Shattuck and Bancroft. 

The male thieves in the 2200 block of Channing about 8:30 p.m., however, brandished a gun, then fled in a silver two-door sedan. 

Somebody in the 50 block of Fairlawn Drive left his or her vehicle unlocked, and a GPS system and package disappeared from it.

Somebody pried open a rear window of a home in the 3400 block of California Street and emerged with a flatscreen TV.

A home being worked on in the 1600 block of Ward Street is missing its skylights and scaffold. 

A Cal employee's wallet was lifted at the Cesar Chavez Student Center.

A vehicle window was smashed in the 1800 block of 62nd Street, but it’s not clear what was taken.

Residents in the 2600 block of Woolsey Street left their door unlocked, and an xBox and bike walked through.
