Berkeley Police Log for Feb. 16-22, 2012

Incidents are derived from reports referenced in the UC Police Daily Activity Bulletin and other reports. Berkeley Police's weekly Calls for Service log, from which we usually draw many of our items, was unavailable this week due to BPD staff absences.

A Berkeley High student  was recovering after surgery.

Wednesday, Feb. 22

A student's HP laptop, value $540, was reported stolen from 110 Hearst Gym.

Sometime between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., a campus employee's Bianchi bike vanished from outside North Gate Hall.

A young lady smoking weed on the Clark Kerr Campus track was cited.

Tuesday, Feb. 21

A motorist driving with a suspended license was cited at Dwight Way and Bowditch Street about 12:22 a.m.

A student's $650 laptop vanished at midnight, Cinderella-like, from the Christian Hall dorm.

Somebody crept overnight into a University Village apartment via an unsecured window and helped him- or herself to $1,000 worth of electronics. 

A young man was cited this morning for expressing himself in blue spray paint on a parking lot at 2200 Bancroft Way, while his 16-year-old confrere was merely spoken to about it.

A man napping in the Smyth-Fernwald tot lot was told to move along.

A woman's backpack and $650 laptop were stolen this afternoon from Dwinelle Hall.

Priestly Hall roommates who left their dorm door propped open for just five minutes this afternoon were looted of two laptops and an iPhone worth a total of $1,900.

Times are tough: Someone stripped two sets of flush-o-meters and drains from the College of Environmental Design first-floor men's restroom.

An 11 p.m. Recreational Sports Facility workout cost someone his $200 iPhone.

Monday, Feb. 20

Someone was arrested at 2:30 a.m. for stealing stuff at Parker and Etna streets.

Sunday, Feb. 19

Two dorm residents drank themselves sick enough to require hospitalization.

That mountain lion was seen near the Lawrence Berkeley Lab's parking lot V at 9:39 a.m.

Yet another smash-and-grab vehicle burglary at the Lawrence Hall of Science parking lot. This time, a Honda Pilot was looted of $1,400 worth of stuff sometime between 4 and 5 p.m.

A gentleman accused of selling weed in the 2500 block of Dwight Way was arrested about 8:45 p.m.

An iPhone was stolen in the Unit 3 dorms about 10:45 p.m.

Saturday, Feb. 18

67-year-old Peter Cukor of North Berkeley was  this evening after going outside to check on a trespasser he had reported to city police. Controversy centers around BPD's response to the call, which took place as BPD mobilized in support of Oakland police monitoring an , as well as the suspect's : Authorities said he was at Cukor's home  

Isn't the Haas Clubhouse pool cold at 4:30 a.m.?

A man who spent the noon hour setting fire to something in People's Park and getting lippy with police who remonstrated with him about it was packed off to Santa Rita Jail.

A 63-year-old basketball fan had her purse snatched at Haas Pavilion after the Oregon State game.

Friday, Feb. 17

A man lounging around Anna Head School with an Oakland no-bail misdemeanor warrant at 12:30 a.m. was carted off to jail.

At 5:30 a.m., 11 Occupy protesters encamped outside Doe Library were  rousted from their tents and thrown off campus for seven days. Seven other protesters who are Cal students and thus harder to throw off campus were also obliged to move along.

Somebody broke into a red Honda at University Village and stole $850 worth of stuff.

An iPhone was stolen this afternoon in Wheeler Hall.

A Cal employee who thought her $1,000 bike was safely bolted to her car parked in Fee Lot #3 learned otherwise at 3 p.m.

A woman was robbed at knifepoint of her iPhone about 7:15 p.m. at Blake and Fulton streets by a bicyclist who then pedaled away.

Thursday, Feb. 16

A $600 trumpet was reported stolen from the Cesar Chavez band room.

A $700 men's Raleigh bike was stolen this afternoon from outside the Valley Life Sciences Building, while a $600 Fisher bike vanished from outside the business school.

Wednesday, Feb. 15

A 21-year-old Cal student was robbed on the 2500 block of Hillegass Street, near People's Park, just after 8 p.m. by three men who demanded her purse and other belongings, then ran away. 

Two men were arrested about 11 p.m. on suspicion of trying to rob a 19-year-old man at the corner of Regent Street and Dwight Way.
