Berkeley Police Ask Public's Help to ID Armed Robbery Suspect

The Berkeley Police Department released several photos Wednesday of a man believed to be responsible for an armed robbery near Milvia and Stuart streets on March 13. The victim was struck several times with a gun during the incident.

The Berkeley Police Department (BPD) is seeking the community’s help to identify an armed robber, according to a department spokesperson.

BPD detectives are actively investigating an armed robbery that occurred near the intersection of Milvia and Stuart Streets on March 13, 2013, said Officer Jennifer Coats, the BPD public information officer, in a press release Wednesday.

The individual shown in the attached photos is believed to be the suspect in the robbery, Coats said.

"The victim was confronted by the suspect, who demanded his property," Coats said. "During the incident, the victim was struck several times with the gun, causing non-life threatening injuries. The suspect fled the area and was last seen getting onto an AC Transit bus after the incident. (For more information on the robbery, see "High School Student Robbed, Struck with Handgun.")

Coats gave the following escription of the suspect: African American adult male, 20s, 5’10”-6’, medium build, wearing black or dark hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, black beanie, armed with a gun.

"Any information may be crucial to solving this robbery," Coats said.

The BPD is urging anyone with information about the robbery or the suspect’s identity to call the Robbery Detail at (510) 981-5742 or the non-emergency line at (510) 981-5900. If a person wishes to remain anonymous, he or she can call Bay Area Crimes Stoppers (BACS) at (800) 222- TIPS (8477).
