Berkeley PD Crime Log for August 12-18

Police responded to reports of gunshots and a fight in progress.

Below is a sampling of items from the Berkeley Police Department's crime blotter from August 12-18. The narratives have been written and selected by the Berkeley Police Department.

August 12

Loud Reports, 2800 Block of Forest Avenue: At approximately 10:22 p.m., residents reported hearing possible gunshots in the area of the 2800 Block of Forest Avenue. Residents also reported hearing them in the area of the 2600 block of Warring Street. Residents reported hearing one or two loud reports. BPD officers were dispatched to the area. Officers reported the area was clear and there were no reports of damage.

Robbery, 1800 Block of Parker Street: At approximately 9:52 p.m., a robbery occurred in the 1800 block of Parker Street. Two female victims were walking in the area when they were approached by the unknown suspects. The suspects knocked one of the victims to the ground punching her several times. The suspects stole the victim’s purse and cell phone. The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries during the incident. The suspects fled the area on foot.

The suspects are described as:

Suspects – “3 or 4 Black Female Juveniles or Adults, dark hair pulled back wearing blue jeans.”

August 13

Disturbance, Derby Street/Hillegass Avenue: At approximately 6:53 p.m., BPD officers were dispatched to a disturbance in the area of Derby Street and Hillegass Avenue. It was reported that two males were in a verbal argument that appeared to escalating into a physical altercation.  Officers arrived in the area and were unable to locate the involved parties.

Residential Burglary, 1600 Block of Ashby Avenue: Between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., a burglary occurred in the 1600 block of Ashby Avenue. The victim reported that the unknown suspect pried open a window and entered the property. The suspect stole a computer and other personal items.

August 14

Injury Collision, Shattuck Avenue/Ashby Avenue: At approximately 10:19 a.m., BPD officers responded to a report of an injury collision in the intersection of Ashby and Shattuck Avenues.  The collision occurred between two vehicles. One of the involved parties was transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. It was determined that the collision was caused by one party running a red light.

Robbery, Durant Avenue/Bowditch Street: At approximately 2:43 a.m. an armed robbery occurred at the intersection of Durant Avenue and Bowditch Street. The three male victims were walking in the area. They were approached by three unknown suspects on foot. Two other suspects approached in a vehicle. One of the occupants of the vehicle got out and pointed a rifle at the victims. The three suspects on foot approached from behind and took victim's property, which included backpacks and cell phones. One of the three suspects that approached on foot was armed with a handgun. All of the suspects got into the vehicle and fled the area. The vehicle is described as a charcoal gray, late 90's Japanese made sedan.

The suspects are described as:

Suspect 1 - "White Male, 18 years old, thin build with blond or brown hair, armed with a rifle."

Suspect 2 - "Black Male, 18-20 years old, 5'8" tall, thin build wearing a red sweatshirt, armed with a handgun."

Suspect 3 - "Black or Hispanic Male."

August 15

Suspicious Circumstances, 2600 block of Benvenue Street: At approximately 10:45 p.m., BPD officers responded to a 911 call from a resident in the 2600 block of Benvenue Street. The resident called BPD reporting, that the alarm was going off. The resident was concerned someone was attempting to break in. Officers arrived on scene and checked the residence. There were no signs of a break in and officers determined it was a possible mechanical problem with the alarm.

Vandalism, 3200 block of Adeline Street: At approximately 3:10 a.m. vandalism occurred to a business in the 3200 block of Adeline Street. An unknown suspect threw an object at the business window breaking the glass.

August 16

Fight Call, Center Street/Shattuck Avenue: At approximately 11:42 p.m. BPD officers responded to a possible fight in progress near the intersection of Shattuck Avenue and Center Street. The reporting party advised that two cab drivers were involved in a physical altercation.  BPD officers arrived in the area and could not locate a fight. The officers checked in with the other cab drivers, who reported there was no altercation.

Auto Burglary, Addison Street/Bonar Street: Between 4:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., an auto burglary occurred near the intersection of Addison and Bonar Streets. The vehicle was parked and locked at the time of the incident. The unknown suspect broke a window to the vehicle and stole the victim’s computer.

August 17

Parking Violation, 1400 Block of Addison Street: At 10:37 p.m., a resident in the 1400 block of Addison Street called BPD to report a vehicle was blocking their driveway. The resident requested the vehicle be cited and towed. An officer was dispatched to the location and determined the vehicle was blocking the resident’s driveway. The officer cited the vehicle, but was able to locate the owner and have the vehicle moved.

Commercial Burglary, 3000 block of Telegraph Avenue: At 6:17 a.m., a business owner reported that her business was burglarized in the 3000 block of Telegraph Avenue. The unknown suspected forced open a locked window. The suspect stole cash and fled the area.

August 18

Loud Party, 2500 block of Piedmont Avenue: At approximately 12:18 a.m., BPD officers responded to a report of a loud party in the 2500 block of Piedmont Avenue. Officers arrived at the location and determined the party to be a nuisance. The location was issued a notice under the City of Berkeley’s 2nd Response Ordinance.

Auto Theft, 2900 block of Wheeler Street: At 7:25 a.m., the victim reported an unknown suspect stole her vehicle while it was parked in the 2900 block of Wheeler Street. An unknown suspect stole the victim’s vehicle sometime during the night. The vehicle taken is a 1990, Silver, Honda Accord, four door.
