Berkeley Man Killed in Car Crash in Santa Cruz Mountains

The 61-year-old Berkeley man drove his car off the road where it careened down a steep embankment.

A 61-year-old Berkeley man was killed in a solo vehicle car crash on Monday in the Santa Cruz mountains according to California Highway Patrol.

At an unknown time, the woman was traveling westbound on Jamison Creek Road, east of Empire Grade Road, according to the CHP report.

For unknown reasons, the driver drove his 2000 Ford Expedition off the road where it careened down a steep dirt embankment, the report stated.

According to CHP, the driver who was not wearing his seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision. It is not known whether alcohol or drug impairment was a factor in this collision.

CHP is continuing the investigation of this incident.
