Remaining campers at Camp Towanga, a camp for Jewish youth that draws many Berkeley youngsters, were advised by Tuolumne County Sheriff's deputies to leave, according to MyMotherLode.com. A post on Camp Tawonga's Facebook tonight said no campers are left at the site and that this weekend's Keshet LGBT Family Camp has been canceled.
The 10,170-acre blaze in steep and remote terrain has closed Highway 120, a major artery leading into the Yosemite area, and was zero percent contained as of 8:30 p.m. tonight, according to the National Forest Service.
