Berkeley Crime: 2 Robberies, 1 at gunpoint; Home Burglary on Grizzly Peak

The Berkeley Police crime blotter for May 26 to June 1 includes an armed robbery of of woman's wallet and cell phone, robbery of a woman's jewelry, a stolen Honda, a laptop stolen from a car, and a computer and jewelry stolen from a home.

The following summary of recent crime was provided by the Berkeley Police Department:

May 26

Robbery, University Avenue/Chestnut Street – On Sunday, May 26, 2013 at approx. 2:15 p.m. a robbery occurred near the intersection of University Avenue and Chestnut Avenue.  The victim was walking in the area.  The suspect approached her and grabbed her jewelry.  The suspect then fled the area on foot.

  • “Black Male, 25-35 years old, 5’3”-5’9”, medium to heavy build, shoulder length dreads wearing dark sweatshirt, blue jeans.”

May 27

Attempted Residential Burglary, 1600 Block of Oregon Street – On Monday, May 27, 2013 at approximately 5:54 p.m. a neighbor called reporting two suspects on the back porch of his neighbor’s home.  He did not recognize the suspects, and yelled out to them.  The suspects were startled and fled through the back yard and jumped the fence.  The suspects attempted to gain entry, but were scared off prior to entering the home.

The suspects are described as:

  • “Black Male, early-mid 20s, 5’6”-6’, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt.”
  • “Black Male, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black jeans.”

May 28

Stolen Auto, Martin Luther King Jr. Way/Berryman Street – On Tuesday, May 27, 2013 at 7:22 a.m. the victim reported their vehicle stolen from near the intersection of MLK Jr. Way and Berryman Street.  The victim parked his vehicle on the street the night prior.  When he went out in the morning his vehicle was taken by an unknown suspect.  Taken was a Red, 1993, Honda Civic, two-door.

May 29

Commercial Burglary, 80 Block of Bolivar Drive – On Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at approximately 5:45 a.m. a commercial burglary occurred in the 80 block of Bolivar Drive.  The unknown suspect attempted to burglarize the business by prying the rear door.  Entry was not made and nothing was taken. 

May 30

Residential Burglary, 1100 Block of Grizzly Peak Blvd – On Thursday, May 30, 2013 between 4:00 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. a residential burglary occurred in the 1100 block of Grizzly Peak Blvd.  The unknown suspect entered the home, possibly through an unlocked door.  The suspect removed the victim’s computer and jewelry.

May 31

Robbery, 2200 Block of Dwight Way – On Friday, May 31, 2013 at approximately 12:45 a.m. a robbery occurred in the 2200 block of Dwight Way.  The victim was in the area when one suspect walked past her.  The suspect turned around and grabbed her from behind.  Another suspect approached her armed with a gun.  Both suspects than robbed the victim of her property, which included a wallet and cell phone. 

The suspects are described as:

  • “Black Male, 20-30, 6’1”, 185 lbs, short black hair wearing a blue track jacket and jeans.”
  • “Black Male, 20-30, 5’11”, 160 lbs wearing a black baseball cap, black collared short sleeve shirt and black pants, armed with a gun.”

June 1

Auto Burglary, 2700 Block of College Avenue – On Saturday, June 1, 2013 between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. an auto burglary occurred in the 2700 block of College Avenue.  The victim parked and locked her vehicle in an underground parking lot.  She returned to her vehicle and discovered one of the windows broken.  The victim’s laptop was stolen.
