Arrest in Tunnel Road Hit-and-Run

Cyclists captured collision on video.

Berkeley Police have arrested the owner of a black sedan linked to a hit-and-run collision on Tunnel Road Wednesday.

Michael Patrick Medaglia, 43, was arrested for possession of heroin, being a felon in possession of ammunition, violation of probation, and felony hit-and-run.

Wednesday afternoon a motorist struck two cyclists from behind, knocking both men to the ground then fleeing. One of the cyclists had mounted a camera on the handlebar of his bike and captured the wreck on video, including the car's license plate. The video, posted on YouTube, has drawn 65,000 hits.

Police found the car this morning and traced it to Medaglia, who was living at the Jack London Inn on Embarcadero West.

He was taken into custody without incident.

Medaglia’s misdemeanor probation violation stems from an August, 2010 case for possession of a switchblade.
