An 18-year-old male suspected of having robbed a woman at gunpoint on Derby Street Friday night was arrested by police a short time later, UC police said today, Thursday.

It was the third night in a row that a nighttime street robbery or robbery attempt occurred in the general area of the UC Berkeley campus.

A 21-year-old woman was walking in the 2600 block of Derby about 8:30 p.m. Friday when she was confronted by a male who pointed a gun at her and grabbed her cell phone, campus police said in a "crime alert."

The robber also took her purse and fled the area on foot, police said.

A short time later, he was detained by Berkeley police officers near the intersection of Regent Street and Dwight Way and arrested on suspicion of robbery, UC police said.

Anyone with information about the crime is urged to contact Berkeley police at 510-981-5900.
