Armed Robbery of People Waiting at Casual Carpool in Rockridge Area

Several people were robbed at gunpoint while waiting at a carpool pickup point on Hudson Street near Claremont Avenue shortly after 9 a.m. this morning, Monday, police said. Three suspects were in custody this afternoon.

Several people were robbed at gunpoint of electronic devices and personal items this morning, Monday, at a casual carpool pick-up point on Hudson Street near Claremont Avenue, according to Oakland police.

Three suspects have been detained in connection with the hold-up, police said.

The robbery happened shortly after 9 a.m., as several people were waiting for rides, police said.

"The suspects parked nearby and robbed their victims of bags and electronics at gunpoint," police said in a crime advisory. "Based on descriptions obtained during our preliminary investigation, officers safely located and detained a possible suspect vehicle and occupants."

Three suspects remained in custody late this afternoon as the investigation continues.

The robbery is the latest in a number of street robberies and other crimes in Rockridge that have aroused community fears.

"We are committed to increasing public safety: addressing violent crimes and street robberies is a priority," police said.
