Armed Robbery in Downtown Berkeley, Victim Hit

A man was struck and robbed at gunpoint on Shattuck Avenue in downtown Berkeley about 6:10 a.m. Saturday, according the University of California at Berkeley police.

A man walking on Shattuck Avenue in downtown Berkeley on Saturday morning was robbed at gunpoint by another man, who struck the victim, according to UC Berkeley police.

The 31-year-old victim was in the 2300 block of Shattuck, between Bancroft and Channing ways, about 6:10 a.m. when the robber approached him and demanded his property, police said in a crime alert.

The victim at first refused, and the suspect hit him with his hand and pointed a gun at him, according to police. The victim turned over his property, and the suspect fled on foot, police said. Berkeley police searched for the robber but did not find him.

According to UC Berkeley police, the suspect was described as "a Black male, 30-40 years of age, 5’10” in height, with a medium build, wearing a blue puffy jacket."
