Bay City News Service—An apartment complex fire in Berkeley sent one person to the hospital with minor injuries early this morning, a fire official said.
The Berkeley Fire Department received a report at 12:03 a.m. Monday of smoke coming from a five-unit apartment building at 2309 Acton St. near Bancroft Avenue, Interim Fire Chief Gil Dong said.
When crews arrived, they found a fire burning inside one of the units. The fire was extinguished within 10 minutes.
The resident of the unit was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and minor burns, and was taken to a hospital for further treatment, Dong said. There were no other reports of injury, he said.
There was approximately $25,000 in structural damage and $5,000 in property damage.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, he said. Crews are also working on getting power restored to the building.
