Alert on Bike Thefts at University Village

A bike theft alert has been issued by University Village, the UC Berkeley graduate student family housing complex in Albany. An unusually high number of bikes, many securely locked in private patios, have been stolen recently.

The UC Berkeley graduate student housing complex at University Village in Albany issued a "Bike Theft Alert!!!" Thursday following a rash of recent thefts of bikes and bike parts.

"There has been unusually high number of bike thefts in the Village," the alert says. "Many had been securely locked and parked in the private patios. Please take a special caution and report any suspicious activities to UCPD (642-3333 from cell phone, and 911 from land line).

The alert included a link to the Village police log that includes the bicycle thefts. The log, covering May 13-27, shows 10 bikes stolen and two cases of bike parts stolen, mostly during the second week.
