Update: Police Recover Carjacked Vehicle of Suspected Prowling Robbers

A Toyota that was carjacked earlier today was recovered after a pursuit by Oakland police. It was believed to have been used by three suspected robbers prowling for victims in North Oakland and possibly South Berkeley, police said. today.

Oakland police this afternoon, Thursday, pursued and recovered a carjacked vehicle that earlier was believed to used by suspected robbers prowling for victims in North Oakland and possibly South Berkeley.

The car – a beige Toyota Corolla with California license plate 4AXJ142 – "was taken this afternoon from the 600 block of Alice Street," police said in the first of two community alerts about the case.

The second alert said:

"Following a community alert issued for a vehicle carjacked this afternoon, OPD officers located the wanted vehicle hours later near 21st St and Myrtle St. The vehicle driver failed to pull over after our attempt to stop, and a brief vehicle pursuit followed.

"Due to our concern for student and pedestrian safety near McClymonds HS, officers ended their pursuit. The vehicle was located a short time later, unoccupied, within the 1400 block of Chestnut." 

The initial advisory provided a description of the suspects:

"Suspects were preliminarily and generally described to police as three male black suspects aged 18 – 20-years-old: one suspect described as 5'8’’, 140lbs, medium complexion, dark clothing; second suspect described as 5'7’’, 200lbs, dark complexion; third suspect described as 6’3’’, thin build, wearing dark clothing. No further descriptions are available." 

"Vehicle occupants should be considered armed and dangerous," the alert said.
