98-year-old Pedestrian Dies After Being Hit While Crossing Street

Joseph Luft of Berkeley was hit on Friday and died later that night after being taken to the hospital

A 98-year-old man died after being hit by a car while crossing the street in Berkeley on Friday, a police spokeswoman said today.
 
Joseph Luft of Berkeley was crossing the intersection of Bancroft Way and Sacramento Street when he was hit, authorities said. Emergency responders took Luft to an area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Friday evening, Berkeley police spokeswoman Officer Jennifer Coats said.
 
The driver involved in the collision remained at the scene on Friday and is cooperating with police. Police do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision.
