5 Robbers Take Man's Cell Phone, Wallet at Gunpoint Near Cal Campus

A man was forced to lie on the ground and robbed of his wallet and cell phone by five males near Channing Way and Fulton Street two blocks south of the UC Berkeley campus early Saturday morning, police said.

A man walking near the intersection of Channing Way and Fulton Street two blocks from the UC Berkeley campus early Saturday morning was robbed at gunpoint by five males, according to UC Berkeley police.

The 24-year-old victim was approached by the robbers, one of whom had a gun, and ordered to lie on the ground and surrender his property, police said. 

The robbers took the man's cell phone and wallet and fled on foot, according to police. 

It was the first of two armed robberies near campus early Saturday morning. About half an hour later, a man and woman walking near the intersection of University and Shattuck avenues were robbed by four males, police said. (See a separate article on that robbery.)

UC police said the suspects were described as:

SUSPECT #1: Black Male Adult, 20-30 years old, 5’8”-5’10”, slim build,
armed with a gun
SUSPECT #2: Black Male Adult, 20-30 years old, Slim build.
SUSPECT #3: Black Male Adult, 20-30 years old, Slim build.
SUSPECT #4: Asian Male
SUSPECT #5: Asian Male
