Berkeley Patch and Berkeley Daily Planet touted O.G, as a johnny-greenfinger, who had created a lush garden in a barren section of Telegraph/Haste out of civic pride, rare among homeless drifters.
The hapless gardener is in Berkeley Jail on public intoxication charges and, reportedly, neglecting his beloved dog, Red-Dog, whose fate at Berkeley Animal Shelter has not yet been determined, according to a shelter spokesperson.
Savvy, O.G.'s loyal side-kick,reportedly, tried to rescue the dog by claiming he was the owner and would care for it.
Savvy was himself "saved" by O.G. recently when a paramedic van called by O.G. treated Savvy for a chronic medical condition that O.G. said could have killed Savvy.
O.G. and Red-Dog, a pit-bull, are well-known in People's Park and on Telegraph. As one reliable sources told me, "O.G. gets drunk and lets his dog bite people." Another good source said that some of the supplies to build the garden might have been stolen from a hardware store. And public money contributions to the garden may have gone for booze," making this an elaborate street-scam.
At the time of O.G.'s and Red-Dog's troubles, neither was popular and as many as five bite-victims in People's Park hailed police, Wednesday to complain. BPD and UCPD cooperated to arrest O.G. and Red-Dog.
