Berkeley Commission Considers Dropping 4th of July Firework Show

Independence Day celebrations at the Berkeley Marina may switch to "Lazer light shows," in a bid to protect animals.

Berkeley's Fourth of July fireworks show this year will be the usual pyrotechnic display of explosives launched in the night sky, but according to the City of Berkeley website, the Waterfront Commission is considering a "Lazer light show" to take the place of regular firework celebrations at the Berkeley Marina.

The Commission is concerned about "lost and frightened animals" resulting from the loud noises of fireworks. Members of the Waterfront Commission have not yet responded to requests for comment.

What do you think about the possibility of "Lazer light shows" taking the place of regular fireworks? What do you do to keep your pets safe during fireworks?
