Urban Farm Tour

South Berkeley's Permaculture Institute of the East Bay (PIE) is one of five urban farms on this year's tour sponsored by the Institute for Urban Homesteading in Oakland.  You will see fruit & vegetable gardens, composting systems, rabbits, goats, bees, greywater and more, plus you will get to sample some of what these urban farmers are producing. Each homestead is unique in its interpretation and use of space. This will be a chance to ask questions about animals, gardening, techniques, greywater systems, rainwater harvesting and more. The 6800 sq ft South Berkeley farm features a full chicken farm (25 birds), ducks, food forest, straw bale building, rainwater cachement, timber bamboo, native plant nursery, vertical gardens a vast array of mushroom habitat and a massive composting system this site generates an amazing amount of food, building materials and 10 yards of topsoil/compost each year.

Tours start at 1pm, 3pm and 5pm at each location. Pick & choose your sites, go to one, two or three locations. Please do arrive on time as a courtesy to the farmers. The suggested donation is $5/adults, $3 seniors/children, but no one is turned away for lack of funds.
