Speak Out on Issues at KPFA & Pacifica: A Town Hall Forum
Pacifica Radio is the most important alternative radio
network in the US
with stations in 5 large cities and programming that is literally censored from
the corporate media these days. It is critical that Pacifica be defended and that it have strong
management and fiscal responsibility. This forum and discussion will look at
the occupation that has been going on the Pacifica Foundation National Office
for weeks after the firing of Executive Director Summer Reese.
Listeners, especially paying members and voters, staff, and
advocates for community radio and for upholding the pacifist vision of founder
Lewis Hill, are invited. What is the real meaning of "Save KPFA" if
that station refuses to turn in its annual financial books like the other 4
stations in the network? This jeopardizes the funding of the entire network and
causes one to wonder if there is a hidden agenda. How does the current turmoil
stem from a hastily called late-night National Board telephone conference
without advance notice that the termination of Summer Reese would be on the
agenda? Is it legal? Is it reckless? The motion came from Jose Fuentes who has
never worked with Summer Reese, and is employed in Dan Siegel's law firm. Siegel
is running for Mayor of Oakland as a Democrat. Let's give everyone an
opportunity to speak on the record. The future of the entire Pacifica network is at stake. Let's all come
together to Save Pacifica!
