Community Corner

Meet the Author

On Thursday, December 6, local author and Kensington
resident Adrienne McDonnell, will discuss her novel, “The Doctor and the Diva” at Arlington Community Church.

A first novel, The Doctor and the Diva, was published
in 2010. This book was inspired by herson’s great-great grandmother, a woman who left her wealthy Bostonian husband and moved to Italy to further her career as an opera singer in the early 20th century.

McDonnell’s research into hundreds of pages of family letters, as well as memories of elderly relatives, long haunted by the story formed the basis for the novel.

The Doctor and the Diva was cited by the American Booksellers Association as an Indie Next Notable Book. The Historical Novels Review chose it as an Editor’s Choice Selection, and it has been sold in eleven countries.

Carolyn See, book reviewer for the Washington Post said:  “In this brilliant, debut novel, Adrienne McDonnell gives us bouquets of fresh flowers in modest apartments overlooking the Arno, where passing strangers pause, enraptured, to listen to exquisite music being sung from above.”
