Community Corner

Berkeley Spark

Inspired by that annual desert pilgrimage in the Nevada desert, Berkeley Spark is a festival of art, music, performance, dance, and workshops. On August 10th, burners, artists, performers, dancers, musicians, and other creative types will take over Civic Center Park as we weave together the Burning Man culture and the diverse strands of our local community, where the spirit of collaboration and creativity is embraced.

Experience art cars before they head out to the Nevada desert.  Dance to DJs, make art, and participate in interactive workshops.  Spark your Playa preparations with burn-friendly clothing vendors and jewelry designers, lighting specialists, and bike decorating ideas.  Inspired by Burning Man’s 10 Principles, Berkeley Spark is a place for radical self-expression, inclusivity, transformation and mutual respect.
The festival is free and open to the public.

It is not too late to join the Berkeley Spark! We still have room for more artists and performers of all types to volunteer their creativity: sculptors, dancers, performance artists, sideshows, DJs. We also need volunteers to help on the day of the event.  If you would like to participate, email us berkeleyspark@gmail.com.  To learn more, visit our website at berkeleyspark.org.

Berkeley Spark is sponsored by the Downtown Berkeley Association in partnership with City of Berkeley Office of Economic Development, Berkeley Partners for Parks, Berkeleyside, Ecology Center, Livable Berkeley, Burning Man Project, Phil’s Sliders, Revival Bar + Kitchen, Samavesha, Streets Alive! and our community dance partners Barefoot Boogie, Dance Journey, Ecstatic Dance Oakland, Silent Storm Sound System and Soul Sanctuary.

Berkeley Spark is two blocks from downtown Berkeley BART so take public transportation, skateboard or ride your bike! This is a LEAVE NO TRACE event.
