Spare The Air Tuesday — Leave The Car At Home

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District has declared Tuesday the second Spare the Air Day in a row.

After issuing the fifth Spare the Air Alert of 2011 Monday, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District has issued the sixth alert for Tuesday, Sept. 20, as hot temperatures and light winds are again expected to combine for poor air quality. It's the first time this year the air district has declared back-to-back alerts.

There is no free transit Tuesday and no wood burning ban in place, but the air district is encouraging residents to take the following measures to help prevent smog:

  • carpool or vanpool with friends or co-workers;
  • take public transportation;
  • telecommute;
  • link necessary trips and postpone errands if possible.
