Meet Berkeley Patch's First Bloggers

Local voices bring commentary, opinion, and insight. Have an idea for a blog? Write to monica.lam@patch.com

Patch has created a new blogging platform, where local voices can share their opinions, expertise and insights directly with readers in their own backyard, and you can talk back.

Bloggers aren't paid and they own the rights to their own content, even if it is published on Patch. Editors don't edit bloggers and bloggers don't take assignments from editors.

You can find blogs on the home page, under a section called Local Voices or in the drop-down menu that appears when you click on the News tab at the top-left of any page.

Berkeley Patch’s bloggers are neighbors, friends, and colleagues who bring a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective. Here’s a quick intro in their own words:

Brett Weinstein

I’m a 30+ year resident of Berkeley and a licensed real estate broker practicing in the area since 1986.  My goal is to give you an “insider’s” view of not only the local real estate market, but of interesting houses, neighborhoods and people. One thing I promise not to do is bore you with a lot of statistics. For as much as real estate is about quantities (price, size, $/sq ft, etc.), I am much more interested in its qualities, such as spaciousness, flow, warmth, contrast, indoor/out, privacy, openness, light and artistic spirit. Michele Morris

Michele Morris lives with her sister in Oakland. She grew up in Suisun City and went to Cal. Currently, she is trying to leave her former life as a paralegal behind her. Read Michele's first blog post.

Lyra King

I'm a Berkeley "lifer" - I was born and raised here and currently reside in South Berkeley with my husband and daughter.  At 43, I still believe in truth, art, and love - the pulse of creative endeavor, intellectual bravery, and emotional insight.  In all the roles I assume - as a woman, mother, wife, friend, and writer - I hope that curiosity and compassion inform my conscience and influence my actions.  I love hiking the hills in Tilden, hunting for treasures in local thrift stores, stolen naps, and visits to the library.
