UC Berkeley Alum Found Floating in a Southern California River Channel

Missing 23-year-old UC Berkeley alum was found dead.

Elgin Stafford, the 23-year-old missing UC Berkeley alum, was found “floating in the Dominguez Channel” in Carson on Thursday, according to the Daily Breeze.

Stafford’s body could not be immediately identified because his it was so badly decomposed, says the Daily Breeze. They reported that he hadn’t been seen since March 20 when he went missing from his home in Carson. Carson's about 18 miles outside Los Angeles.

Stafford interned “for a local congresswoman,” according to KABC.

It was originally reported that Stafford was a current USC graduate student in the public diplomacy program, but the Daily Trojan updated their article to say that he had withdrawn from the university in January 2012. The paper reports he had "been exhibiting erratic behavior when he went missing."

While it remains unclear whether this was homicide, but "no foul play is suspected, according to KTLA.
