Power has been restored to over 7,000 PG&E customers in Berkeley this evening including the downtown Berkeley BART station, officials said.
According to PG&E, power was restored to the BART station shortly before 7 p.m., and the remaining customers in Berkeley were restored by 7:09 p.m.
The downtown BART station reopened at 7:32 p.m. after being closed for around two hours, BART officials said. Trains were running through the station but not stopping during the closure.
There are residual delays of around 10 minutes on the Richmond and Fremont lines tonight.
The outage began at 5:29 p.m. and was caused by an underground equipment failure in the 1800 block of University Avenue, said PG&E spokeswoman Jana Morris. It initially impacted some 7,100 customers. Service was restored to 1,000 of those customers within an hour, and service was fully restored two hours later.
The affected streets also included Dwight Way, Telegraph Avenue and Piedmont Avenue, Morris said.
