Recall of Semifreddi's Biscotti – Label Omission
Semifreddi's bakery has voluntarily recalled biscotti because labels did not contain warnings that the crisp almond-flavored cookies contain milk and soy products, to which some people are allergic to, according to health officials.
An Alameda-based bakery has voluntarily recalled cookies from store shelves because of a labeling issue that could put consumers with allergies in harm's way, California Department of Public Health officials said today.
The health department discovered during a routine inspection that Semifreddi's Inc. had omitted including allergens milk and soy on its labels.
Because of the omission, Semifreddi's voluntarily recalled all of its almond biscotti and chocolate-dipped almond biscotti with an "Enjoy By" date prior to Sept. 16, 2014, according to the health department.
Cookies with a date after Sept. 16, 2014, are not subject to the recall, health department officials said.
The bakery separated its entire inventory and notified retailers directly, according to the health department.
Consumers with milk or soy allergies should not eat the cookies, as they run the risk of a life-threatening allergic reaction, department officials said.
Anyone who spots the cookies on a store shelf is asked to call the health department at (800) 495-3232.
