Major Power Outage In Berkeley Hills, Oakland

Update: Power was restored to residents by about 6:30 p.m., the San Jose Mercury News reported. The power went out again for a short period at around 7:30 p.m. The Mercury news reported that a squirrel caused the outages by crawling into electrical equiptment.

Pacific Gas & Electric is reported a major power outage in Oakland and in the Berkeley Hills Saturday.

The outage, reported just after 5 p.m., affects 10,950 customers, according to PG&E spokeswoman Jana Morris.

The cause of the outage has not been confirmed, but multiple customers have called to report a collision involving a car striking a power pole, Morris said.
