When Does School Start in Berkeley?

If you're wondering when Berkeley youngsters will be summoned back to public school this year, the answer is Aug. 28, though Berkeley High has earlier registration days for each of its four grades.

The first day of public school in Berkeley is Wednesday, Aug. 28, according to the Berkeley Unified School District.

Berkeley High has earlier days for class registrations:

Freshmen, Monday, Aug. 19 (families can expect a mailing about which session to attend that day)
Sophomores, Tuesday, Aug. 20
Juniors, Wednesday, Aug. 21
Seniors, Thursday, Aug. 22
Make-up day for all students, Friday, Aug. 23

More details about Berkeley High registration can be found on the district website.

Families for all students in grades K-12 should receive information about the new school year in the middle of this month, the district said.

"Each school sends home pertinent information with important 'need-to-know' details about the start of the school year in mid-August," the BUSD website says.
