Alma Desnuda is an entertaining acoustic band with meaningful lyrics and wonderful beats. The name “Alma Desnuda” means naked souls in Spanish. This band of four is filled with enthusiasm for their music, which I saw first hand at Oakland’s First Friday Art Murmur at the beginning of April.
Alma Desnuda stepped onto the scene as a newly formed band at Starry Plough in Berkeley. This was the location for their debut in 2008. They also have another interesting tie to Berkeley: Guitarist and vocalist, Paul, directed the international education program at Kaplan-Aspect. Berkeley put this band on the map and gave them their first stage to start their path to success.
Alma Desnuda shows their unique music in an acoustic setting. They tour California and the United States with minimal equipment and manage to win over crowds and gain support, including Grammy award winning artist and producer, David Pack.
David Pack recently gave Alma Desnuda a full endorsement comparing them to bands like Dave Matthews Band and the Beetles. In his endorsement, David Pack states, “They connect... Alma Desnuda has natural-born stage charisma.” He praises them for their natural talent and passion for music. Pack also states that they are his new favorite band, which proves furthermore their ability to draw people into their music.
Not only have they seen success in being endorsed by David Pack, but they have also been well received in the Bay Area. In 2011, they were named “Best Live Act” by Slim’s in San Francisco, an intimate concert venue and club, which they often play at.
Needless to say, this band has a special place in their hearts for Berkeley because it was the city in which they made their official debut, which has allowed them to achieve what they have today. Their music is lively and entertaining both in person and on CD. They are currently touring the U.S. and will play a show on May 25 at Café Du Nord.
