One Cubic Foot: Miniature Surveys in Biodiversity

Photographs by David Liittschwager

In the Hazel Wolf Gallery

How much life grows or passes, on land or sea, through one cubic foot of space? To find out, and to record the stunning concentrates of biodiversity, the photographer David Liittschwager and a group of scientists record whatever appears in an open green metal frame over the course of a normal day, in order to examine the vitality and diversity of assorted habitats.

The Brower Center has commissioned David and his team to create a world premiere exploring the biodiversity of our local habitat – under the Golden Gate Bridge.

Featuring short films about each habitat David has surveyed, as well as a lecture and talkback with the artist. The program will be followed by a wine reception in the gallery.
