Houston Jones

Look out! Here comes Houston Jones! We advise audience members to bring along personal fire extinguishers as this quintet of musical veterans plus two great special guests ignite the evening with their sizzling, eclectic mixture of originals and original interpretations of grassroots americana music.

Houston Jones features the highwire left-handed upside down guitar wizardry of former Waybacks and Hearts on Fire guitarist Glenn Houston and the whiskey-cured honky tonk vocals of Louisiana-born Travis Jones. Add to the equation Chris Kee (Peter Rowan, Norah Jones, the Waybacks) on bass, cello, and guitar, Peter Tucker (formerly of the Waybacks) on percussion, and Henry Salvia (the Johnny Nocturne Band) on keyboards and accordion, and you have a group that can comfortably embrace musical styles from bluegrass, country, folk, and gospel to blues, Texas swing, and jazz, and barely break a sweat—unlike their audience.

The group just released its sixth CD, Queen of Yesterday

Special guests Stevie Coyle and Joe Craven add further spice to tonight's mix, each in his own short opening set and then in combination with HJ. A veteran of the infamously talented string band, The Waybacks, Stevie has stepped out as a solo act in recent years with his spot-on guitar playing and quirky, tuneful, and insightful songs. Musical madman Joe Craven (Jerry Garcia, the David Grisman Quintet, Maria Muldaur, Wake the Dead) is known for playing anything, whether it's got strings attached or not. From violins and tin cans to knitting needles and ukuleles, it's all fair game when Joe takes the stage!
