Bach in Berkeley: Festival Preview May 28

The Mendocino Music Festival presents an informal preview of their 4-Day Bachfest (July 13 – 16) taking place during this year’s Festival in Mendocino Village, this July 12 through 26th.

The preview event will be held at the Julia Morgan-designed Berkeley City Club, Wednesday, May 28th at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20.

Festival co-founder Susan Waterfall will be joined by Burke Schuchman, Mindy Rosenfeld, and Jeremy Cohen to play highlights including the Trio Sonata from the "Musical Offering," the d minor Chaconne for violin, the Italian Concerto, and selected movements from Bach Suites and Sonatas.

“I’m particularly excited about this year’s Bach event,” Susan says, “"It's a four-day in-depth look at Bach in his world — his wig, his wives and children, his employers, his commitment to counterpoint, his all-inclusive projects like the 'Musical Offering', even his beer!  And the performers are outstanding Bach players from a variety of backgrounds."

Access to the magical arts and crafts Berkeley City Club (called “the Little Castle” because Morgan was also the designer of Hearst Castle) is worth the price of admission alone.
