What's Open, What's Closed on New Year's

Check out holiday hours and schedules for government offices, schools and public transit for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

City of Berkeley: City offices are open on Dec. 31 and closed on Jan. 1. 

Berkeley Public Library: All branches will close at 6 p.m. on Dec. 31and will be closed all day on Jan. 1. 

Alameda County, state and federal offices: Administrative offices are open on Dec. 31 and closed on Jan. 1.

BART: BART will run a normal weekday schedule on Dec. 31 but will extend evening service until 3 a.m. Trains will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule on Jan. 1, with service beginning at 8 a.m. See the BART website for more information.

AC Transit: On Tuesday, Dec. 31, all AC Transit local and transbay lines will operate on regular schedules. On Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, in observance of the New Year’s holiday, all AC Transit local and transbay lines will operate on Sunday schedules.

SF Bay Ferry: San Francisco Bay Ferry will provide normal weekday service on Tuesday, Dec. 31. There is no ferry service on Wednesday, Jan. 1. See the SF Bay Ferry website for more information.

Banks: Open Dec. 31, closed on Jan. 1.

Stores, businesses: Varies. Most restaurants and taverns and some retail stores will be open on New Year's Day.
