Here's a brief run-down of what's open and closed in Berkeley on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 21, a national holiday.

The late civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. was born Jan. 15, 1929, and his birthday is celebrated as a national holiday on the third Monday in January, which this year is Jan. 21.

Here's a list of what's open and closed in Berkeley on Monday.

Berkeley City Hall: Closed.

Berkeley City Transfer Station: Open 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

City of Berkeley Swim Centers (King Pool and West Campus Pool): Closed.

Berkeley City Public Library and all branches: Closed.

Berkeley Unified School District: All schools closed.

Garbage, green waste and recycling service: Curbside collection of Recycling, Green Waste and Garbage will occur as normally scheduled. Refuse Administrative Offices, Customer Service counters and phone lines closed.

Department of Motor Vehicles and other state of California offices, federal offices: Closed.

Banks: Most banks – including Citibank, Chase and Mechanics – will be closed. 

Stores, businesses: Varies, though many will be open.
