Student Who Interrupted Obama Is Cal Grad

Ju Hong, the protester who called out loud criticism during President Barack Obama's appearance in San Francisco's Chinatown Monday, is a UC Berkeley graduate, according to an article published by the Bay Area News Group (BANG).

Hong, 24, built a reputation as an immigration reform activist while studying at Laney College and then UC Berkeley, the article says. He attended high school in Alameda, where he was a played basketball, ran cross country and earned high grades.

He was invited to attend the Chinatown speech on immigration reform as one of the young people brought to the U.S. illegally as children and ended up standing behind the President on the speaking platform, it says.

When Obama blamed Republicans in Congress for stalling reforms, Hong called out, "I need your help here. There are thousands of families separated. Every single day. You have the power to stop deportations for all," according to a CNN report.
