Short Power Outage in Swath of Berkeley, Albany, El Cerrito

Large areas of Berkeley, Albany and El Cerrito lost electric service for about 45 minutes this afternoon, according to PG&E.

Large sections of Berkeley, Albany and El Cerrito suffered a temporary power outage shortly after 2 p.m. today, according to PG&E.

The outage affected 2,582 customers for about 45 minutes, according to PG&E representative Tamar Sarkissian.

By about 2:50 p.m., power to all but 20 customers had been restored, she said.

Sarkissian said the outage occurred in two areas:

  • In Berkeley east if Interstate 80 to Sacramento Street between Parker and Delaware streets
  • In Albany and El Cerrito east of San Pablo Avenue to Key Route Boulevard/Ashbury Avenue between Portland and Eureka avenues.
The utility was still assessing the cause, she said.
